# TikTok Shop image requirements: size, count and AI label

TikTok Shop image requirements in plain words: the 600 px minimum, a square crop, a white main image, five or more images, and when AI photos need a label.

_October 18, 2026. Written with AI from the sources listed below, and checked automatically before it went live._

TikTok Shop wants [square product images of at least 600 x 600 pixels](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en), and you can upload [as many as nine, with one picked as the main image](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en). The main image needs a [pure white background](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en) and a front view of the product, and a listing needs [five or more images to reach the "Good" tier](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=481891871868714&lang=en).

This post covers the full rule list, one export setting that passes all of it, a shot list for the first five slots, and a straight answer on when an AI photo needs a label.

## What TikTok Shop asks of every product image

Here are the rules from TikTok's own Seller Center pages, all in one table.

| Rule | What it says |
| --- | --- |
| Image count | As many as 9, all square |
| Minimum size | 600 x 600 pixels |
| Main image background | Pure white |
| Main image view | Front physical view of the product |
| Added extras | No logos, text, borders, watermarks or graphics |
| Renderings | No placeholders or digital renderings |
| Colour | Colour only, no black and white |
| "Good" quality tier | 5 or more images of the main product |

Source: [TikTok Shop Product Listing Policy](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en) and [Listing Quality Guidelines](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=481891871868714&lang=en)

The one sellers trip on most is the ban on extras. It covers [all product images, on the product or in the background](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en), not just the main one. A sale badge, a logo in the corner or a frame around the photo will cause you trouble. Put those in your videos and ads instead.

The second one is renderings. [Placeholders and digital renderings of a product are not allowed](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en). Each picture has to show the real thing you ship, in its real colour and shape.

## Which size and crop should you export?

You'll find guides online that tell you to use taller crops for some slots. Skip them. The listing policy says [square images](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en), so use one export for all nine slots and stop thinking about it.

Use these settings:

- **Shape:** square, with the same width and height.
- **Size:** 1000 x 1000 pixels or larger, which leaves headroom over the [600 x 600 minimum](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en) when the platform shrinks or zooms the image.
- **Colour:** full colour, since [black-and-white images are not acceptable](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en).
- **File:** a JPEG in standard colour, saved at high quality.
- **Framing:** product centred and filling most of the frame, with a thin white margin so nothing gets cut off.

Got a photo that's the wrong shape? Drop it into the free [product image resizer](https://withicarus.com/tools/product-image-resizer). Pick where it's going and you get back a square JPEG on pure white at the right size, under the file size limit. Then run it through the [product image requirements checker](https://withicarus.com/tools/marketplace-image-requirements), which shows you what passes and what to fix on size, file type, file size and white background. TikTok can change its rules, so open the current Seller Center page and compare before you upload.

## How many images, and what goes in each slot

Five images get you the ["Good" tier](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=481891871868714&lang=en). TikTok's own seller course says to aim for [5 to 9 images per product](https://seller-uk.tiktok.com/university/course?learning_id=3324325005477664&content_id=3295982750762784&lang=en-GB). Fill the first five in this order:

![White leather sneaker seen from the front, centred on a pure white background](https://icarus.b-cdn.net/blog/tiktok-shop-image-requirements/white-sneaker-front-on-white.png)

_Made with Icarus_

1. **Main image.** The product alone, seen from the front, on [pure white](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en). This is the one buyers see in search and on the feed.
2. **Back or side view.** The same white background, with the product turned.
3. **Close-up.** The detail people check before they buy: stitching, texture, a clasp, the nozzle on a bottle.
4. **In use.** The product worn, held or on a shelf, in a real setting.
5. **Scale or contents.** The product in a hand or next to something everyday, or everything that comes in the box laid out flat.

Use slots six to nine for other colourways, a second lifestyle shot, the packaging and a detail from another angle. Leave size charts and feature callouts out of the image slots, since text on the image breaks the rule on added extras. That information goes in your description.

## Does an AI photo need a label on TikTok Shop?

If an AI image shows a person or a scene that never existed, label it. A [2026 guide from the photo studio soona](https://soona.co/blog/tiktok-shop-image-requirements) says TikTok Shop's updated content policies require a visible "AI-generated" label on AI product imagery, and that this covers AI models and made-up lifestyle scenes. The same guide says [light AI editing like colour correction, cleanup and background removal](https://soona.co/blog/tiktok-shop-image-requirements) is generally treated the same as standard post-production.

Keep in mind that this is a third party's reading of the rules, not TikTok's own wording. Check TikTok's AI-generated content page in Seller Center before you publish, because that page is the one that counts.

In practice:

- Make your main image a real photo of the product on white. Removing the background is fine.
- Use AI in the lifestyle and on-model slots, and label those images.
- Never let AI stand in for the product itself. A [digital rendering is not allowed](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en), so the product in every shot has to match what you ship.

Still unsure about a particular image? Try the free [Do your AI photos need a label?](https://withicarus.com/tools/ai-image-disclosure) tool. You answer four questions and get a plain answer for each place the image will show up, covering whether it needs a label, what the label says and where it goes.

## Making the five slots with AI, then checking them

Start from one clear photo of your product, taken from one angle. In Icarus, [product pinning](https://withicarus.com/features/exact-product) carries your real colour, logo and stitching into every shot. That's what keeps the close-up and lifestyle slots matching the box your buyer opens.

For slots four and five, describe the scene in plain words. For example:

> A woman holding a glass skincare bottle at a bathroom sink, soft morning light from a window, the bottle sharp and centred, square frame

Try this prompt in Icarus: https://withicarus.com/dashboard?prompt=A%20woman%20holding%20a%20glass%20skincare%20bottle%20at%20a%20bathroom%20sink%2C%20soft%20morning%20light%20from%20a%20window%2C%20the%20bottle%20sharp%20and%20centred%2C%20square%20frame

Icarus shows a shot's price before you make it. On the model it starts you on, an image at 2K costs $0.05 when it holds a saved product, so four lifestyle shots at $0.05 come to $0.20. Need to clean up a real photo for the main slot? An image edit costs $0.05.

Go through this list before you upload:

- [ ] Every file is square and 1000 px or larger
- [ ] The main image shows the front of the product on pure white
- [ ] No text, logos, borders or badges on any image
- [ ] The product in every shot matches the real one, side by side
- [ ] AI-made scenes and models are labelled
- [ ] Five or more images are filled

If you want to make your lifestyle slots from a single product photo, you can try it in Icarus.

## Questions

### What size should TikTok Shop product images be?

Every product image has to be [at least 600 x 600 pixels](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en) and square. Export at 1000 x 1000 pixels or larger so the image stays sharp when buyers zoom in.

### How many images can a TikTok Shop listing have?

You can upload [as many as nine square images](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en), with one picked as the main image. You need [five or more to reach the "Good" tier](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=481891871868714&lang=en).

### Can the TikTok Shop main image have a lifestyle background?

No. The main image needs a [pure white background and a front view of the product](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en). Put lifestyle scenes in the other slots.

### Do AI-generated product photos need a label on TikTok Shop?

A [2026 guide from soona](https://soona.co/blog/tiktok-shop-image-requirements) says AI-generated product imagery needs a visible "AI-generated" label, AI models and made-up scenes included. Light edits like background removal are generally treated as normal post-production. Check TikTok's own AI content page before you publish.

### Can I add my logo or a sale badge to TikTok Shop images?

No. Product images [must not include added logos, text, borders, watermarks or graphics](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=3196690250417921&lang=en), on the product or in the background. Put that content in your videos and ads instead.
